The Northwest's Premier Small Orchestra, Serving the Area from Whatcom to Skagit to Snohomish to Island Counties

Welcome!

Bayshore Symphony embarks on a Musical Journey this year, presenting a guest conductor in each of our concerts. Our Fall concerts were under the baton of Seattle native Travis Sipher. Winter concerts were under the direction of guest conductor Trevor Lutzenhiser. Spring concert conductor is well-known area musician and educator Robert Storms. We know you will enjoy seeing these new conductors on the podium.

Robert Storms is a highly respected figure in several musical areas: education, composition, and performance. For 40 years Bob taught music in the public schools at the middle-school level, teaching band, jazz band, elementary music and chorus. He was elected Music Teacher of the Year in 2000 for the San Juan district of the Washington State MENC, and was subsequently admitted to the NWBA, an organization with the elite membership of outstanding music teachers in the Northwest.

As a teacher, Bob saw a need to provide music for his own school groups, and began to create new compositions yearly, and found that other school music groups wanted to play them. He became known as a composer, began publishing his own works, and they are now being played from California to Alaska, and Canada. He has served as a contest festival judge for band, jazz band, chorus, orchestra, solos and ensembles for over 20 years.

Bob is the winner of three composition contests, author of six books of songs (over 600 songs in copyright), and numerous pieces for concert band, orchestra, choir and small instrumental ensembles. He now devotes much of his time to composing, arranging, guest conducting, and guest solo performing as a jazz clarinetist.

Bayshore Symphony

Bayshore Symphony is pleased to offer exciting soloists, including violinist Kwan Bin Park, violist Joyce Ramée and clarinetist Ruth Steele, as we take our journeys across time and place. Come along!

We are a 501 (C) 3 nonprofit organization, so all contributions to us are completely tax-deductible.

We love hearing from our audience members! Here are a few comments sent to us --- From Bellingham: "Kudos to the Bayshore Symphony for putting on such a fabulous program on Sunday! We were spell-bound by the music and energized for weeks to come by the Bizet. Honestly, it was just breathtaking and we were all so happy to have a reprise. Our friends loved it, too." From Mount Vernon: "Thanks for the swell concert. We should have, and next time, we will for sure bring friends!"

Ruth Steele

Ruth Steele will play the Mozart Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra in A Major, K. 622, on April 21 and 22, 2012.

Ruth Steele is a native of County Durham, England. Growing up she played alto saxophone, bass and/or smaller clarinets with a variety of wind ensembles and orchestras, studying with Jennifer Murray of the Northern Sinfonia. Ruth has a degree in History from the University of Edinburgh, an MA in History/Archives Management from Western Washington University, and works as an archivist at WWU's Center for Pacific Northwest Studies. She lives with her husband Brendan in Bellingham, and has enjoyed making music with members of the Bayshore ensemble since 2008. Copyright 2012 Bayshore Music Project
